Key facts

• This is a full-time, permanent role.
• Starting salary: £48,000 per annum + benefits, including generous pension contributions (8% employer contributions when the employee contributes 3%), a starting holiday entitlement of 25 days per year plus public holidays, access to healthcare plans and discount schemes, and flexible remote working arrangements.
• Home-based - you can be based anywhere in the UK.
• Some travel may be required.

The role

The Practitioner Authorisation and Supervision Manager will lead and support the Practitioner Team of five direct reports. In this role, you will oversee team performance, lead meetings, and manage the assessment process for foreign lawyer recognition, CILEX Practitioner and CILEX Advocate admissions, and CILEX Advocate certificate renewals. You will collaborate with training providers, assessors, and internal stakeholders to uphold high standards, develop policies, and improve procedures. Strong leadership, organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills, along with a keen eye for detail, are essential.

Key responsibilities:

• Line manage the Practitioner Team
• Review KPIs for the team and report to the managers’ meeting
• Lead the team meetings
• Assess applications made in connection with foreign lawyer recognition, admission as a CILEX Practitioner and CILEX Advocate, and renewal of a CILEX Advocate certificate
• Liaise with training providers to ensure applicants are eligible for courses
• Liaise with assessors regarding assessments, fees and training needs
• Liaise with Head of Education regarding the processes and standards of CRL’s qualifications and the operational aspects of delivery
• Correspond orally and in writing with CILEx Regulation regulated community and with applicants in relation to authorisation and supervision schemes
• Develop and introduce policies and procedures to implement changes to individual authorisation and supervision arrangements
• Ensure the Admissions and Licensing Committee, is appropriately serviced
• Generally assist with the publicity and promotion of educational and professional standards to CILEx Regulation regulated community, other stakeholders and the public
• Manage budget for the area and liaise with internal finance regarding assessors fees and applicants invoice queries
• Comply with the principles of GDPR and IGR, maintaining records of all authorisation transactions in compliance with CILEx Regulation’s retention policies.


About You
Essential:
• Educated to degree level or equivalent
• Good decision making and analytical ability
• Demonstrated experience of overseeing authorisation workflows, ensuring timely and accurate approvals
• Able to demonstrate knowledge of the legal profession, legal services and qualification routes in the legal sector
• Excellent communication skills verbal and written; able to be both concise and accurate
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective professional internal and external relationships
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to take responsibility for meeting tight deadlines and own workload
• Experience of working effectively and efficiently both individually and within a team
• Line management experience
• Sound administrative skills with good keyboard skills with a high level of expertise in Word and Excel

Desirable:
• Able to demonstrate application of assessment methods and work based learning outcomes
• Knowledge of outputs based schemes
• Law Graduate or professional status
• Understanding of the principles and practice of regulation of education in the context of a professional services environment
