Tax Policy Director



The role


The purpose of this senior officer role is to oversee tax technical matters and professional standards within the organisation. The role involves working closely with the governing bodies and relevant committees to shape policy, manage external relations, uphold professional standards, and ensure compliance with AML regulations. This post holder will be tasked with executing the strategy on behalf of these groups.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the role is responsible for developing, shaping, and effectively communicating the organisation's input on technical, policy, standards, and AML matters.


Key facts


- This is a full time, permanent contract
- Starting salary of ca £95,000
- Benefit package includes flexible working, life insurance, income protection, group personal pension plan with up to 9% employer contribution, etc.
- Primarily home based, with occasional travel to our client’s office in London for meetings and events.



The ideal candidate


To succeed in this role, you will command respect across the tax community, demonstrating top-tier tax expertise, public policy knowledge, and a strong commitment to the organisation's goals.

You will be an excellent communicator, skilled in relationship-building and influencing key stakeholders. This role requires a confident, authoritative presence in all forms of media, including print, broadcast, and online, to effectively represent the organisation on tax-related matters.

You will combine technical strengths with practical credibility, offering broad knowledge of taxation issues. While expertise in all areas of tax is not necessary, a comprehensive understanding is essential.

Strong leadership and management skills are crucial, particularly in guiding volunteers and staff to ensure their work reflects the organisation’s views as set by the governing bodies. Experience working with volunteers is highly desirable, as it fosters an understanding of the balance between volunteer and staff contributions.

Flexibility and responsiveness are key attributes for success in this position.
