What our talent researcher does: interview with Olga Lupu
Anthony Haynes writes: As we announced in our previous post, we recently appointed Olga Lupu to the post of Researcher.Here's an interview designed to introduce both Olga and her role.
A.: Your job title is Researcher. What exactly is the function of your role?
O.: I am a researcher and most of my time I try to solve the puzzle of matching a role to a candidate.
The roles we work on are senior and specialist positions for various membership organisations, awarding bodies, and learning providers.
A.: What does your work look like in practice? What kinds of activity do you do during the working day?
O.: On a typical day, I work on three or four very different projects, researching the client and what is the role about and then sourcing relevant candidates and approaching them.
Also 25% of my work consists of doing some admin bits and tasks, related to clients, candidates or vacancies.
A.: What are the satisfactions of the role? What gives you the biggest buzz?
O.: Finding the right candidate for a role is definitely the biggest satisfaction I get from the job.
The puzzle that I mentioned above is sometimes straightforward, but it can be also more complex and challenging – which is what makes the finding of the right profile even more rewarding.
A.: What skills do you find yourself deploying most?
O.: I feel like my attention to detail is handy for this job; also being a fast learner is an advantage when it comes to getting my head around new platforms and tools used in recruitment.
A.: What about Olga Lupu outside FJWTS? What would you like to tell us about what you like doing out of work?
O.: I moved to the UK three years ago from Moldova. I lived in Cambridge for a while, fell in love with the city from day one, but about a year ago moved to a nice quiet village on the outskirts.
I like taking long walks, while listening to podcasts (Radiolab is the best) or the Hamilton soundtrack, and reading.
I am more of an introverted and domestic person. Luckily my fiancé is the same: we both really enjoy an evening at home, while watching a good movie and having some popcorn.
